Waffen-SS Wehrpaß - 'SS-Wehrgeologen-Ers.Kp.'

Description

Waffen-SS Soldbuch of SS-Oberscharführer 'Andreas Pilger', member within the "ᛋᛋ-Wehrgeologen-Abt.(mot.)500". When individuals received their registration notice they were to report to the appropriate recruitment center where they would be issued a 'Wehrpaß', until they were inducted into active duty. From the autumn of 1939, when an individual was inducted into active military service the Wehrpaß was exchanged at the recruitment office for the 'Soldbuch' (Pay Book), which remained in the recipients possession as his official military identification document. The recruitment office would retain the Wehrpass and chronicle the individuals active service record in it. The engineering unit 'SS-Wehrgeologen-Abteilung (mot) 500' was formed in 1942. In March 1944 it was transferred to Brittany in north-western France where it was used to build coastal defences and help with preparations for shooting V1 rockets on London. After the invasion in Normandy the unit withdrawl up through Belgium to Hengelo in the Netherlands for re-fitting before transferring to Italy in September where it was stationed in the Veneto and Trentino regions. While working of the mountain defences it also saw some action against partisans. The Wehrpaß belonged to SS-Oberscharführer 'Andreas Pilger', he came into active military service on 21 May 1942. He served in the 'SS-Wehrgeologen-Ers.Kp.' as a 'Res.Führerbewerber', from 20 January 1943 to 3 February 1944 he served in the 'SS-Wehrgeologen-Gerätepark-Kompanie', from 5 February 1944 he served within the 'SS-Wehrgeologen-Batl.' which later became the 'SS-Wehrgeologen Abt.(mot.)500'. He was promoted three times and ended up being an 'SS-Oberscharführer'. On 1 September 1944 he has been awarded with the War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords. Various signatures inside the Wehrpaß are made by 'SS-Hauptsturmführer Marquardt'. Please not that this was one of the smallest SS units with a total strength of about 600 men only. Extremely rare and interesting original Wehrpaß!
