WH (Heer) Death notice (Sterbebild). A common practice in Europe that continues to this day, is the issue of a remembrance card on the death of a family member. This is a death notice for 'Franz Heinrich' who was an 'Oberleutnant' and 'Bataillons Adjudant' within a 'Gebirgs Jäger Regiment'. Franz took part in the campaigns against Poland, Greece, Krete and Russia. He was killed in action on 18 September 1943 at Karfreit (Caporetto) in Italy. Franz was awarded with the Iron Cross 2nd class (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse'), the Silver Wound Badge (Verwundeten Abzeichen in Silber) and the Bulgarian Military Order for Bravery (bulgarischen Tapferkeitsmedaille).
