Dutch Military Cyclist's Short Overcoat
Dutch Military Cyclist's Short Overcoat (Wielrijders Jekker). The coat is made of high quality fieldgrey woolen cloth used to manufacture privately purchased tunics, so-called 'Buitenmodel' tunics. The coat has two rows of five front closure buttons and a single metal hook and eye at the neckline. The coat is having a pair of rank-insignia (Bananenschillen) nicely period machine-sewn to the sleeves indicating the rank of corporal. An insignia for a bicycle repairer (rijwielhersteller) is originally machine-sewn to the wearer's left upper-sleeve. The coat is not visible maker marked or dated. The colour of the wool in combination with the black coloured Dutch Lion buttons date this coat probably around the early 30's. Rare and hard to find original Dutch Military Cyclist's Short Overcoat in good condition!
