Royal Dutch Navy Dagger M1880
Royal Dutch Navy Dagger (Marine Ponjaard M1880). Belonged to the standard equipment of a midshipman in the Royal Dutch Navy, the model was introduced around 1880. The double edged blade is in good used condition showing excellent etchings, the ricasso is nicely maker marked by the company of 'P. Mansvelt & Zoon' from 's Gravenhage. The dagger is having a beautiful original undamged white celluloid grip. The dagger is complete with it's original gilded brass scabbard. The crossguard is marked with the unique service number "734" which indicates that this dagger belonged to 'Wigger Meindersma'. Wigger was born on 17 October 1921 in Java. He served in the Royal Dutch Navy, from 1942 to 1945 he was a Prisoner of War in Indonesia. After the Second World War he went back to the navy, on 30 June 1945 he had the rank of 'Luitenant ter Zee der 3e klasse' (Second Lieutenant). The dagger is in good used condition.
