Luftwaffe 'FLAK' Officer's Visor Cap (Schirmmütze für Offiziere der Flakartillerie). Visor caps were a standard item for all armed forces personnel during the Third Reich period. Although enlisted personnel were issued their caps from government supplies they were also permitted to purchase privately tailored caps. This was originally an EM/NCO's type visor cap which has been period upgraded to an Officer's visor cap by adding silver officer's piping on top of the red FLAK piping and replacing the insignia for hand-embroiderd officer's type insignia. The cap is complete with its original hand-embroidered Luftwaffe officer's type cap-eagle and cocarde, both nicely period hand sewn to the cap. The sweatdiamond is missing, the cap is fainly maker marked. The leather sweatband is in very good condition. A newspaper has been period folded underneath the sweatband showing two quotes, the first being "Unsere Opfer werden nicht umsonst sein" (Our sacrifices will not be in vain) and the second being "mit Mut und Vertrauen in den Endkampf" (With courage and confidence in the final battle).
