Israeli Mk. 1A K98 Combat Bayonet
Description
This is an Israeli-made knife bayonet for the 8 mm Mauser Kar 98k rifle. Israel began producing its own bayonets in 1949 to supplement the German M1884/98 III, Czechoslovak VZ-24 and Belgian FN M1924 bayonets that had been obtained to equip the newly established Israeli Army. The bayonet is based closely on the German M1884/98 pattern and is a sturdy and functional example of early Israeli military production. Compared to its German predecessor, however, the overall fit and finish is somewhat crude, reflecting the early stage of Israeli arms manufacture at the time. The ricasso and scabbard are marked in Hebrew with the designation “Bayonet Mk. 1A”, followed by the manufacturer marking “101" and model year 49. Both the bayonet and scabbard are further marked with a Star of David and the Hebrew letter Tsadi, which was used as a government property mark. The bayonet is in good used conditon. Rare and hard to find original Israeli k98 bayonet in good condition!
