'Allgemeines Sturmabzeichen'

Description

General Assault Badge (Allgemeines Sturmabzeichen). The General Assault badge was introduced on 1 June 1940 by 'Generaloberst Walther von Brauchitsch' for award to support personnel who were ineligible for the Infantry or Panzer Assault badges. Criteria for award of the badge was basically the same as the criteria for award of the Infantry and Panzer Assault badges with the main qualification being participation in three separate assaults in a supporting role. The hollow design badge is executed in 'Buntmetall' (tombak). It is heavily worn and lost most of it's original silverish finish on front, the back still shows some nice finish. The badge is complete with a functional pin and catch. The badge is not visible maker marked, this one is from an unknown manufacturer, in reference books it is called type 1.18.1. Nice badge with a great patina, this is a scarce and hard to find variant!
