Early M33 SS Dagger 'Rich. Abr. Herder'

Description

Early Model 1933 SS Dagger (Dienstdolch M33). Early on, members of the SS were awarded their daggers during a ceremony at the Feldherrnhalle Memorial in Munich. The annual ritual was held on 9 November, the date of the unsuccessful Munich Putsch of 1923. Both officers and enlisted men wore the identical dagger until 1936. After this time, only enlisted men wore the M1933 dagger. The dagger has a blackened wooden grip, the grip has a nicely inset nickel/silver SS eagle and a nickel/silver enameled runic SS button. The cross guard is marked with the Roman numeral I indicating third SS district 'Munich'. The blade bears the SS motto: "Meine Ehre Heißt Treue" (My Honor is Loyalty), the reverse ricasso is well marked with the etched manufacturer’s marking by the company of 'Rich. Abr. Herder' from Solingen. The dagger comes with its regrettably heavily rusted magnetic sheet metal scabbard with nickel-silver fittings. The blade has some minor surface pitting and typical runner marks. De dagger and scabbard are showing clear traces of usage and some damage caused by years of storage, the dagger is in uncleaned condition as found, see photos. Nice original wartime SS Dagger in heavily used condition for a fair price!
