KM 'Zerstörer-Kriegsabzeichen'

Description

Kriegsmarine 'Zerstörer-Kriegsabzeichen' (Destroyer War Badge). The Destroyer War Badge was instituted on 4 June 1940 by Oberbefehlshaber der Kriegsmarine und Großadmiral 'Erich Raeder'. The badge was aswarded to destroyer crew members who had participated in the naval battle for 'Narvik' (Norway). Regulations of October 1940 extended bestowal of the Destroyer War Badge to include other destroyer, torpedo, and E-boat personnel involved in other naval battles. The badge is a 'Buntmetall' (tombak) version in very good condition. The badge, which still has great detail and retains most of its original finish, has a functional pin and catch. At the top is a stabilizing hook soldered firmly in place which was used when attaching to a uniform to keep the badge from flipping forward. The badge is nicely maker marked with 'Schwerin, Berlin 68'. The name of the sailor "Ernst" is engraved to the back, together with his 'Feldpost' number "M 26896". A nice and honest KM war-badge!
