Luftwaffe Winter Fur Cap - 'Pelzmütze'

Description

This is a nice original Luftwaffe Winter Fur Cap (Pelzmütze). These winter caps were a standard issue item and were distributed to all EM/NCO’s for the winter season, (15 September to 15 April), with other winter garments and were to be returned to the units clothing depot in April for storage, repair and cleaning to be re-issued the following September. Although there was no official standard model of the fur cap the most commonly encountered type followed the basic pattern of the Mountain and M43 caps with fold down back and side panels designed to protect the wearer’s ears and neck. This cap is an reissued/captured Hungarian WW2 Winter Cap and designed in a manner similar to the Luftwaffe flying caps and was most likely issued to ground crew personnel. The cap is complete with an original Luftwaffe breast-eagle type eagle which is period factory machine sewn to the front of the cap. The cap is showing a nice ink maker marking which most likely reads: 'Báránybőr manufaktúra, Újpest Vág utca' (Lambskin manufactory). The cap just shows some normal traces of usage and some staining. These original fur caps are not so often offered for sale. Great and rare original example in good used condition!

This cap originates from the collection of the recently closed Eyewitness Museum and was in display in the diorama in the last picture!
