This is an Award Document (Urkunde) for the German Eastern Front Medal (Medaille für die Winterschlacht im Osten). The German Eastern Front Medal was instituted on 26 May 1942 to commemorate the first winter campaign in Russia, operation Barbarossa. The medal was also known as the "Frozen Meat Medal". Approximately 3 million examples have been awarded. This DIN-A5 sized document was awarded to Feldwebel 'Alfred Wiedemann' on 2. September 1942. This document was personally signed by Oberstleutnant und Kommodore des Kampfgeschwaders 3. 'Walter Lehweß-Litzmann', who was a recipient of the German Cross in Gold and the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The award document has regrettably been folded but is in good condition, see scans.
