Cased KVK 1st Class '1' with 'Überkarton'
This is a nice cased example of the War Merit Cross 1st Class without Swords (Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse ohne Schwerter) which comes in its so-called 'Überkarton' (carton box). The 'Kriegsverdienstkreuz' is instituted on 18 October 1939. The basic criteria for award centered about bravery and service (not in connection with combat). The unissued cross is a nice 'Buntmetall' example, complete with a functional pin & catch, it still retains almost all of it's original silver finish, some minimal staining and age patina is present. The cross is nicely maker marked with number '1' indicating production by the company of 'Deschler & Sohn' in München. The cross comes in its original black coloured case having a neat silver-coloured 'KvK'-logo imprinted on the top, the case is nicely maker marked 'Deschler & Sohn, München'. The cross and etui are complete with a rarely found original carton box (Überkarton). The carton box is missing two small side flaps, see photos. Desirable original set in very good condition!
