Cased Luftwaffe Pilots Badge - 'B&NL'

Description

Cased Luftwaffe Pilots Badge (Flugzeugführerabzeichen). The Pilot's badge was originally introduced in january 1935 as an DLV (Deutsche Luftsport Verband) award, the Luftwaffe officially adopted the award on 26 march 1936 by order of 'Hermann Göring'. The badge was awarded to LW personnel who completed the theory and training and achieved their military pilot’s licence. This badge is an early war period tombac (Buntmetall) piece. The badge is nicely maker marked with 'B&NL' indicating production by the company of 'Berg & Nolte AG' from Lüdenscheid. The badge has naturally a functional pin & catch construction. The badge still shows great finish and stunning details. The badge comes in an original case as found together. The case is in slightly used condition and showing minimal traces of usage and some damage at the corners. The set comes together with a photo of the recipient being Leutnant 'Heinz Frintrop', according to information I was able to find online he crashed on 19 July 1942 near Maux (France) while flying a Do17P (Dornier) from the '4./Kampf-Geschwader 6'. Interesting original badge with history!
