US M1 Combat Helmet

Description

US M1 Combat Helmet. The M-1 helmet was developed as a replacement for the M-1917 helmet that had seen use since WW1. The M-1 helmet was approved for production in June of 1941. Early models had solid loops (fixed bale) for the chin straps but they broke off to often and were replaced with a moveable hinged loop. This is a helmet with the moveable swival bale loops and front seam stainless steel rim. The helmet shows the stamp numbers '299A' and is marked with a capital 'S', this indicates production by the 'Schlueter Manufacturing Co.' of St. Louis, Missouri. Approximately 22.000.000 M1 helmets have been made during the war of which the 'Schlueter' company only produced around 2.000.000 making helmets from this manufacturer very rare and desirable. The helmet is complete with its original chinstrap. The helmet comes with its original liner, the liner comes without chinstrap. The helmet liner is marked by 'Firestone/Westinghouse'. The liner is in good condition. The helmet is complete with original netting. This helmet probably dates around 1945. Nice original M1 helmet in very good condition!

This helmet originates from the collection of the recently closed Eyewitness Museum!
