US Veteran Bringback Cased Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross - MINT
Description
Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross (Ritterkreuz des Eisernes Kreuzes). On 1 September 1939 Adolf Hitler reinstituted the Iron Cross series of awards in the First, Second and Grand Cross Classes and established the new Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross was the highest award made by Nazi Germany to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or outstanding military leadership. Hitler reserved the right to personally authorize bestowal of the Knight’s Cross and all ranks were eligible for the award. In total it is estimated that roughly 7360 Knight’s Crosses were awarded during World War II. The cross has a three piece construction having a magnetic iron core and a silver frame, the frame is marked with a '935' silver content marking and Pkz number '4' indicating production by the company of 'Steinhauer & Lück' from Lüdenscheid. The cross is in absolute mint and unissued condition and is stored in its original box, complete with full-length ribbon. The box comes in its original carton outer box, a so-called 'Überkarton'. This carton box is matching marked by 'Steinhauer & Lück, Lüdenscheid'. This set was sent home as a souvernir by a US veteran at the end of the war. It was mailed home in simple carton slip by 'PFC. James A. Parks', he was a member of the Btry. B. 208th F.A. Bn. The cross was shipped to his wife 'Mrs. James A. Parks' in Cleveland, Ohio. The carton package is showing a Censor Marking on the front, indicating that it was inspected by a 'US Army Examiner', this indicates that the package was shipped before May 8th, 1945 since they stopped the censor markings after the war ended. Dating this cross prior to May 1945! It is almost impossible to find a Knight's Cross for sale nowadays. Scarce and stunning original Knight's Cross in stunning mint condition, it doesn't get any better then this!
