WH (Heer) 'Narvik' Campaign Shield

Description

WH (Heer) Army type 'Narvik' Campaign Shield in Silver (Narvikschild), mounted on a piece of fieldgrey wool. The 'Narvikschild' was instuted by Adolf Hitler on 19 August 1940 for award to all Wehrmacht personnel who participated in the battle of Narvik (Norway) between 9 April and 9 June 1940. About 8577 examples have been awarded in total to all branches of service. The zinc-type shield is complete with its metal back-plate and 4 prongs and still retains its fieldgrey woolen backing. The zinc is showing some typical bubbling but still retains a fair amount of its original silver finish, the shield is showing great detail. The shield is not visible maker marked but can very likely be attributed to the company of 'Wilhelm Deumer' from Lüdenscheid. There is some minor damage to the wool, see photos. Nice original Narvik Shield in good used condition!
