Description

Canadian Tanker Crash Helmet. In the summer of 1940, the Canadian Department of National Defence opted to adopt a Canadian-made version of the British 'Helmet, Crash Royal Armoured Regiment'. The helmet was made of cloth covered cork, with rubber vents in the sides and a web suspension. A leather “scrum”, attached by laces and buttons, held the head phones. Some 12,000 were made. The helmet was known in Canadian service as the 'Helmet, Crash, Tank Battalion'. The helmet is complete with khaki chinstrap. The helmet is showing a nice Canadian Broad Arrow marking. The helmet is showing some traces of wear and some black paint loss to the outside, see photos. This would be a nice addition to a WW2 headgear/helmet collection. The period black&white photograph is showing a Canadian tank crew of the 5th Canadian Armoured Division wearing this type of crash helmets during training in Aldershot (UK) on 24 December 1942 (Copyright: Library and Archives Canada). Nice original Canadian Tanker Crash Helmet in good used condition!
