Waffen-SS Wehrpaß - 'SS-Pz-Rgt. Das Reich'

Description

Waffen-SS Soldbuch of SS-Mann 'Günther Schwalm', member within the 'ᛋᛋ-Pz-Rgt."Das Reich" Stabskp.'. When individuals received their registration notice they were to report to the appropriate recruitment center where they would be issued a 'Wehrpaß', until they were inducted into active duty. From the autumn of 1939, when an individual was inducted into active military service the Wehrpaß was exchanged at the recruitment office for the 'Soldbuch' (Pay Book), which remained in the recipients possession as his official military identification document. The recruitment office would retain the Wehrpass and chronicle the individuals active service record in it. The Wehrpaß belonged to SS-Mann 'Günther Schwalm', he was born on 12 October 1926 near Liegnitz (nowadays Poland), after his compulsory RAD (Reichsarbeitsdienst) service he came into active military service on 10 December 1943. From 10 December 1943 to 26 December 1943 he served in the 'Stamm-Kp./SS-Pi.Ausb.Btl.3', from 27 December 1943 to 14 March 1944 he served in the '2./SS-Pi.Ausb.Btl.3'', the SS-Pionier-Ausbildungs-Bataillon 3 was stationed in Krakow, he followed several Engineer educations and was trained to use the rifle 98k, light Machine-Gun MG34, Pisol P08 and P38. From 15 March 1944 he served within the 'SS-Pz-Rgt."Das Reich" Stabskp.', probably indicating the SS-Panzer-Regiment 2 „Das Reich“. So he entered the SS Division 'Das Reich' just before the division was transferred to France and took part in the heavy fighting in Normandy. Unfortunately not many entries have been made, but nevertheless an interesting original SS Wehrpaß!
