KM 'U-boot-Kriegsabzeichen'
This is a Kriegsmarine 'U-boot-Kriegsabzeichen' (U-Boat War Badge). The U-Boat War Badge was instituted by Oberbefehlshaber der Kriegsmarine und Großadmiral: 'Erich Raeder' on 13 october 1939 for award to all ranks of U-Boat personnel who had served on at least two sorties against the enemy or were wounded in action. The badge is executed in 'Buntmetall' (tombac) and shows great detail and still retains all of it's original golden finish, showing polished highlights. The badge is nicely maker marked with 'Schwerin Berlin 68'. The badge is regrettably missing it's pin and catch and is having two loops soldered on the back, this is an original period modification. The badge was found in a house-cleaning in Germany, together with some original period photographs and some post-war veteran remembrance items, it belonged to a member of the U-393 "Sultan". Nice and interesting original Kriegsmarine U-boat grouping!
