Lappland Award Document Grouping
WH (Heer) Award-Document Grouping from Oberfeldwebel 'Ludwig Schretzelmeier', he was a member within the '7./Geb. Jg. Rgt. 218' (7. Gebirgsjäger Regiment 218). The grouping is consisting of 4 Award-Documents (Urkunden), each at (DIN) A5 size and 2 additional documents. Ludwig was awarded with the Infantry Assault Badge (Infanterie Sturmabzeichen) on 10 September 1940. On 29 September 1941, Ludwig was awarded with the Iron Cross 1st Class (Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse). This document shows the facsimile signature of Generalleutnant and Divisionskommandeur 'Kurt von der Chevallerie', he was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oakleaves. Ludwig got wounded 3 times: on 16 September 1941, 9 August 1943 and on 1 February 1944. Therefor he was awarded with the Wound Badge in Silver (Verwundeten Abzeichen in Silber) on 23 February 1944. On 22 July 1945, Ludwig was awarded with the Lappland Campaign Shield (Lapplandschild). This document is in heavily used and fragile condition. The Lappland Shield was awarded to members of the '20. Gebirgsarmee' which had been fighting against the advancing Finnish and Soviet Red Army forces in Lapland between November 1944 and the war’s end in May 1945. It was awarded to men who had fought for six months in the region or had been wounded during operations therein. It was authorized in February 1945 and was the last officially instituted German campaign shield of the war. It continued to be awarded after the end of the war in May 1945. All documents have been folded, see photos. Interesting and rare Lappland award document grouping!
