Luftwaffe Double Decal M40 Combat Helmet (Stahlhelm M40. The stamped sheet steel construction M40 helmet retains almost all of its rough textured Luftwaffe-gray paint, the paint is showing scratches and normal traces of usage. Both decals are in good condition with some normal damage and scratches caused by usage, the Luftwaffe eagle is present for about 90%, the national shield for about 70%. Inside the helmet a nice dome-stamp is visible. All three liner retaining rivets are intact, the rivets are dated 1940 (KA 40). The interior of the helmet is an M31 leather liner with steel liner-ring, all eight fingers are present, the liner is a size '58'. The liner is complete with original liner cord. The shell is marked with maker and size 'Q66'. 'Q' is indicating production by the company of 'F.W. Quist, G.m.b.H.' from  Esslingen. The reverse interior neck guard apron has a stamped serial number '404' which is in the Lot-Number range for Double Decal helmets. The helmet is complete with its original leather chinstrap, the chinstrap is nicely maker marked. The helmet is in overall good used condition, see photos. Please note that double decal M40 Luftwaffe Helmets are almost impossible to find and a hundred times rarer then any M35 Luftwaffe DD helmet. This is a rare piece which would be a great addition to an extended (Luftwaffe) helmet collection!
