Luftwaffe M40 SD Wire Camouflage Helmet
Luftwaffe M40 Single Decal 'Wire' Camouflage Combat Helmet (Stahlhelm M40). The steel construction M40 helmet retains most of its green coloured camouflage overpaint, a Luftwaffe decal is clearly visible beneath the paint, the decal has regrettably been dug out. The helmet is having original period applied wire attached for camouflage purposes to attach foliage, there is a nice patina on the helmet clearly showing the wire has been there since the war. All three liner retaining rivets are intact. The interior of the helmet is a M31 leather liner with all eight fingers intact and the original liner cord is partly present as well, there are some initials written in the liner, see photos. The shell is marked with maker and size 'hkp62'. 'hkp' is indicating production by the 'Sächsische Emaillier und Stanzwerke A.G.' in Lauter. The reverse interior neck guard apron has a stamped serial number '13778'. The helmet is complete with its original chinstrap as found together. The chinstrap is an early example with aluminum buckle, nicely maker marked by the company of 'Franz Brehme' from Walsrode and dated 1938. Besides the dug out decal this helmet is totally untouched, without the dug out decal this helmet would fetch double this price. Stunning original Luftwaffe 'Wire' Camouflage Helmet!
This helmet originates from the collection of the recently closed Eyewitness Museum and was in display in the diorama in the last picture!
