RAD Commemorative Beer Stein
This is a nice original RAD (Reichsarbeitsdienst) 'Zur Erinnerung an meine Arbeitsdienstzeit in Hermeskeil' (In memory of my labor service in Hermeskeil) Commemorative Beer Stein (Bierkrug). The FAD was formed in 1929 and was the basis for the National Socialist Labour Service, in 1935 renamed to 'Reichs Arbeitsdienst'. In July 1935 the RAD service became compulsory, with all German citizens between 19 and 25 years of age required to enlist for a six month term. The 0,5-Liter capacity beer stein is showing a RAD shovel surrounded by an oakleaf wreath as its central design, above the shovel the date of the service period 1935, in the shovel the RAD unit '4/243' being the 4th detachment of Group 243 which was the town of Hermeskeil. The beer stein is named to 'Arbeitsmann Peter Wilden'. Nice and decorative original piece!
