Barnfind Wehrmacht (Heer) M40 Single Decal Combat Helmet (Stahlhelm M40). The stamped sheet steel construction M40 helmet retains a fair amount of its rough textured, field-grey paint. The helmet is showing a lot of surface rust, see photos. The remains of a standard Heeres decal are visible on the left side of the helmet. A nice dome-stamp is visible inside the helmet shell. The shell is marked with maker and size 'ET64' which indicates production by the company 'Eisen-und Hüttenwerke, AG' in Thale/Harz. The reverse interior neck guard apron has a stamped serial number. All three liner retaining rivets are intact. The interior of the helmet is a M31 leather liner with all eight fingers intact, the liner is a size '56'. The helmet comes with its original leather chinstrap, the leather is a bit dry. This helmet was found in the Netherlands in an old barn and is in uncleaned and untouched condition as found, a cool piece of history!
