Wehrmacht (Heer) M40 Single Decal Combat Helmet (Stahlhelm M40). The stamped sheet steel construction M40 helmet retains most of its rough textured, field-grey paint. The paint shows normal wear and scratches caused by usage, see photos. A standard Heeres decal is applied to the left side of the helmet, the decal is retained for about 95%. This is a eagle with thin wings which can be attributed to the firm of 'Huber Jordan u. Koerner', often found on 'EF' made helmets. All three liner retaining rivets are intact. The interior of the helmet is a M31 leather liner, the leather is a bit dry and heavily blood stained, this helmet was brought back by and American soldier as a souvernir from the war. The shell is marked with maker and size 'EF62' which indicates production by the company 'Emaillerwerke AG' from Fulda. The reverse interior neck guard apron has a stamped serial number '697'. The helmet is in original untouched and uncleaned condition as found. Interesting helmet that is taken straight from the battlefield, a dark piece of history that literally symbolizes the other side of the medal!
