Description

Cased Dutch Honorary Medal for Charitable Assistance (Erepenning voor Menslievend Hulpbetoon). The medal was created at 18 June 1822 and is after the Military William Order the oldest decoration for bravery in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Furthermore, the Honorary Medal is the highest civilian decoration still being awarded for bravery, and is specifically for those who carried out a voluntary act of bravery or self-sacrifice, with an emphasis on charity. This is type 7 as introduced on 24 May 1897 and was only issued until 1912 when Type 8 was introduced (as still issued today). The medal is named to 'B.E.W. van Bennekom Jr.'. The medal is in good condition and complete with its original confectioned ribbon, the set comes in its original box. The orange coloured box is showing some normal traces of usage but is in overall very good condition, see photos. The box is marked by the famous company 'van Wielik' from The Hague. Rare original set in good condition!
