Kriegsmarine Award Document Grouping
Kriegsmarine Award Document Grouping from Obersteuermann 'Johann Berger', he was assigned to the 'Kreuzer Leipzig'. The grouping is consisting of 5 Award-Documents (Urkunden) of which 3 at (DIN) A5 size and 2 at (DIN) A4 size. The first award document Johann (Hans) received was for the 'Return of the Memel Commemorative Medal' (Medaille zur Erinnerung an die Heimkehr des Memellandes). Hans received this award on 26 October 1939, when had the rank of Matrosengefreiten. This rare award document is at A4 size and it's period framed. Hans, now the rank of Matrosenobergefreiten, was awarded with the 1 October 1938 Medal (Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 1 Oktober 1938) on 20 December 1939. This beautiful Marine version of the 1 October medal award document is at A4 size and it's also period framed. On 5 September 1940, when Hans had the rank of Bootsmannsmaat, he was awarded with the Iron Cross 2nd Class (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse). This A5 sized award document was signed in Cherbourg, France, where Hans was stationed at that time. On 1 December 1940, Hans was awarded with the Kriegsmarine Minesweeper War Badge (Kriegsabzeichen für Minensuch-, U-Boot-Jagd und Sicherungsverbände). This A5 sized document is a nice decorative version but clearly has staining. On 14 May 1944, when Hans was a Obersteuermann, he was awarded with the Iron Cross 1st Class (Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse). This A5 sized document was personally signed by Konteradmiral und Befehlshaber des Deutschen Marinekommandos Italien (Italy) 'Wilhelm Meendsen-Bohlken', he was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross and the German Cross in Gold. Interesting, decorative original Kriegsmarine award document grouping!
