Luftwaffe M40 Camouflage Helmet

Description

Luftwaffe M40 Camouflage Combat Helmet (Stahlhelm M40). The steel construction M40 helmet retains most of its three-tone tan/green/darkgreen camouflage overpaint, a Luftwaffe decal looks to be faintly visible beneath the paint. There is some surface rust visible on the outside of the helmet and some heavier rust on the inside of the shell. All three liner retaining rivets are intact. The interior of the helmet is a M31 leather liner with all eight fingers intact, the leather is in dirty but still supple condition, see photos. The shell is marked with maker and size 'hkp64'. 'hkp' is indicating production by the 'Sächsische Emaillier und Stanzwerke A.G.' from Lauter. The reverse interior neck guard apron has a stamped serial number '13746', this lot number is indicating a Luftwaffe issue helmet as well. The helmet is complete with its original chinstrap. The chinstrap is complete with aluminum buckle and both aluminum studs. The chinstrap is nicely maker marked and dated with 'bdr 41' indicating production by the company of 'Richard Erhardt' from Pössneck in 1941. The leather of the chinstrip is a bit dry. This helmet is a true 'Woodwork' find and was not part of a collection before, this helmet was found in a cleaning of an old barn and is in untouched and uncleaned condition as found. Stunning original Luftwaffe Camouflage Helmet!
