M36 SS Chained Dagger
M36 SS Chained Dagger (Dienstdolch M.1936/Kettendolch). Early on, members of the SS were awarded their daggers during a ceremony at the Feldherrnhalle Memorial in Munich. The annual ritual was held on 9 November, the date of the unsuccessful Munich Putsch of 1923. Both officers and enlisted men wore the identical dagger until 1936. After this time, only enlisted men wore the M1933 dagger and officers wore the M1936 chained dagger. This is an M36 Chained Dagger for officer's. The dagger has a blackened ebony wooden grip, the grip has a nicely inset aluminum SS eagle and an enameled runic SS button. The cross guards are showing some small age cracks. The blade bears the SS motto: "Meine Ehre Heißt Treue" (My Honor is Loyalty), the reverse ricasso does not bear any maker mark, as it should be. The blade has some typical runner marks and is showing nice crossgraining when hold up against the light. The dagger comes with its original black anodized coloured magnetic sheet metal scabbard, complete with all small screws. The chain hanger is made of iron and is magnetic (B2). The chain is showing stunning detail on the skulls and SS logos. The chain is marked with the SS acceptance marking. De dagger and scabbard are showing normal traces of usage, see photos. Rare original chained SS dagger in good condition!
