WH (Heer) Award-Document Grouping
WH (Heer) Award-Document Grouping from Oberfunkmeister 'Wilhelm Wittkop', he was a member within the 'Stbttr./Art.Regt.198' (Stabsbatterie Artillerie-Regiment 198). The grouping is consisting of 5 Award-Documents (Urkunden), all in (DIN) A5 size, and some additional documents and/or old copies with addiontal information about Wilhelm. Wilhelm was awarded with the Iron Cross 2nd Class (Eiserne Kreuz 2. Klasse) on 29 August 1940, this document is personally signed by Generalleutnant 'Karl Weisenberger', Weisenberger was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. Wilhelm was awarded with the War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords (Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klass mit Schwertern) on 20 April 1940, this document is a so-called 'Zweitschrift' (replacement). Wilhelm was wounded in action on 9 May 1944 and was awarded with the Wound Badge in Black (Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz) on 31 May 1944. On 3 June 1944 Wilhelm was awarded with the Iron Cross 1st Class (Eiserne Kreuz 1. Klasse), this document is personally signed by Generalmajor 'Alfred Reinhardt', Reinhardt was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords. Finally he was awarded with the Kuban Campaign Shield (Kubanschild) on 1 October 1944, this document shows the facsimile signature of Generalfeldmarschall 'v. Kleist'. All five documents have been folded, perforated and partly been glued into an album, see photos. The additional documents are one originel period 'Dienstleistungs-Zeugnis' and five period photo-copies of various documents which will provide you some more information about Wilhelm. Interesting original grouping which certainly merits further investigation!
