Wehrmacht 'Affe' Backpack M1939 with fur flap (Tornister 39). This backpack was introduced by an order 'HM 39, No 328', dated 18 April 1939. The cowhide was to protect against rain. The pack was worn hooked onto the belt supporting straps (Y-straps) which were introduced with the M1939 pack. Two D-rings with hook are sewn in a diagonal position near the rear upper edge of the pack. The backpack is nicely maker marked by the company of 'Franz Brehme' from Walsrode and dated 1942. A pair of field made webbing carrying straps is sewn to the hooks. An enamel cup is attached to the bottom of the backpack. It was just found like this in a housecleaning in Germany and I left it in as found condition. Nice example in good condition!
