US M1 Combat Helmet
US M1 Combat Helmet. The M-1 helmet was developed as a replacement for the M-1917 helmet that had seen use since WW1. The M-1 helmet was approved for production in June of 1941. Early models had solid loops (fixed bale) for the chin straps but they broke off to often and were replaced with a moveable hinged loop. This is a helmet with the fixed bale loops and front seam stainless steel rim. The helmet is showing a smoother type paint most often seen in the post-war period and the helmet is having dark OD Vietnam era chinstraps so it has probably been reissued during the post-war Vietnam period. The helmet comes with an original WW2 liner as found together, the liner unfortunately comes without leather chinstrap. The helmet liner is marked with the logo of the 'Inland' Company. Inside the helmet is a name tag named to Pvt. Ralph O. McKee, enlisted on 19 October 1944. The liner is in overall good used condition. Nice original Post-war reissued M1 helmet with named WW2 liner!
This helmet originates from the collection of the recently closed Eyewitness Museum!
