This is a nice complete German World War 1 M1915/17 Canteen (Feldflasche). The new pattern canteen for the German Army was first introduced in June of 1915. Production now turned to tin plated and enamelled steel in order to save scarce aluminum that the M1907 canteen used. Due to shortages of pretty much everything by late in the war, papercloth has now been used as a substitute for both cloth and the leather straps. Metal press studs have been replaced with a black tie cord. The papercloth cover is maker marked by the company of 'Emanuel Kahn' from Karlsruhe and dated 1918. Scarce original last ditch World War 1 'Ersatz' canteen in good used and uncleaned condition as found!
