Kriegsmarine Coastal Artillery M38 Gasmask Canister (Blechbüchse M38) in a stunning not often encountered camouflage scheme, complete with a pair of Spare glasses (Klarscheiben) and both carrying straps. All German Army personnel were issued with a gasmask, carrying canister and accessories and were required to have it readily available at all times. Fear of the potential use of chemical warfare agents made the gasmask and canister a constant companion of the German soldier through-out the war. The M38 camouflaged canister is nicely maker marked and dated 1939. The canister retains most of its original three-tone camouflage overpaint showing vibrant colours. This is a typical camouflage scheme as often used by coastal artillery personnel. The inside of the canister is a bit dirty and partially covered in black paint. The canister is complete with both the long and short carrying straps, the canvas straps are complete with leather reinforcement. Stunning and desirable original camouflaged gasmask canister!
