Cased German World War 1 8x40 Naval Binoculars (Marinefernglas D.F.8x40 in Behälter). The D.F. 8x40 was manufactured from 1916 to 1919 and was made from a mix of materials available at the time, known as 'Ersatz' materials. The T 195 catalog of 'Carl Zeiss' lists the binoculars as 'Marine-Modell'. The binoculars are in very good complete condition with undamaged Bakelite eyecups. The binoculars are nicely maker marked by the company of 'Carl Zeiss' from Jena. The binoculars also bear the inscription 'D.F. 8x40' and the unique serial number '686771', on the lower bridge is also a marine serial number visible. The binoculars are in good used condition, the optics are clear. The binoculars are complete with leather carrying strap and leather rain-cover. The binoculars are stored in their original leather carrying case. The case can be carried on the belt with the large leather belt-loop on the back. Nice matching set in good used condition, these WW1 Naval binoculars are almost impossible to find, especially in this condition. A great and honest piece of equipment!
