German K98 Combat Bayonet 'S/174G'
Description
German K98 Combat Bayonet (Seitengewehr 98K). The K98 bayonet was a standard issue item and was accompanied by a bayonet frog to be worn on the reverse left side of the load carrying waist belt. The K98 bayonet remained the standard issue bayonet through-out the war with minor manufacturing variations. The bayonet and scabberd are non-matching, the bayonet is marked with serial-number '4234' and maker marked by 'S/174G' indicating production by WKC in 1935. The late war scabberd is marked with serial number '5342' and maker marked with '44 asw' for 'E. & F. Horster & Co.' from Solingen. The blade is in good but unfortunately sharpened condition, see photos. The bayonet is having red-brown bakelite grips, these look to be late war, maybe the bayonet has been reissued together with a new scabberd. Nice original bayonet in good used condition!
