Late war Japanese Arisaka Type 30 Bayonet

Description

Rare late war 'last ditch' Japanese Arisaka Type 30 Bayonet. The Type 30 Bayonet was introduced in 1897 and was the primary bayonet used in the Imperial Japanese Army, intended to be used with the Arisaka Type 30 Rifle and was later used on the Type 38 rifles. This is an early Type 30 bayonet having a hooked cross guard which was designed to catch and trap the enemy's blade. By 1942 the hook was removed to save materials and decrease production time, leaving only a straight cross guard. This is a typical late war made bayonet saving on materials as much as possible. The bayonet is complete with its rarely seen bamboo wooden scabberd, this example has metal fittings at the top at bottom, with string securing wrappings around the body, one of the strings is missing. The scabberd still retains a fair amount of the original paint. The blade is in good used condition and only been sharpened on the last 2/3 of the edge which is typical for these last ditch examples, the bayonet is having wooden grips. The bayonet is nicely marked with a serial number and manufacturer's markings indicating that the bayonet was produced by the 'Toyoda Jidoshoki Seisakusho' factory under Nagoya Aresenal supervision. Rare original late war Japanese bayonet in good used condition!
