Kriegsmarine Tropical Pith Helmet Shields
Pair of Kriegsmarine Tropical Pith Helmet Shields (Schilder für den Tropenhelm). In late 1940, with the impending German entrance into the North African campaign, tropical uniforms and equipment were quickly developed and issued in time for DAK personnel's arrival in Tripoli in February 1941. Originally the tropical uniforms were only intended for wear in North Africa but that was later expanded to include personnel serving in southern areas of continental Europe during the summer months. The set is nicely maker marked with 'C.T.D.' indicating production by the company of 'Christian Theodor Dicke' from Lüdenscheid. The shields are complete with all prongs, these are scarcer the thick/heavy zinc type shields. It should be noted that these original KM tropical pith helmet shields are almost impossible to find. Scarce original set in very good condition!
