Nice quality portrait photograph showing Leutnant 'Helmut Freiberg' in his Wehrmacht uniform as a member of the '22.Luftlande Infanterie Division'. A Luftwaffe Paratrooper Badge (Fallschirmschützenabzeichen) and an early first pattern Wound Badge are visible at his chest. Written on the back of the photo is: "Helmut Freiberg geb. 12.9.1918 - Gefallen 20 Mai 1941 - Kreta. Heldenfriedhof bei Chania auf Kreta" (Helmut Freiberg, born 12.09.1918, killed in action on 20.05.1941 on Crete. Buried near Chania at Crete. Research indicated that he was killed in action in the afternoon of May 20th 1941, at that moment Lieutenant of the '9./Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 3'. Helmut rests at the Maleme War Cemetery near Chania. The photograph measures approximately 13,5 x 8,5 cms in size and is in good condition. The photo was developed by 'Foto-Atelier C.
