Luftwaffe Single Decal M40 Combat Helmet
Luftwaffe M40 Single Decal Combat Helmet (Stahlhelm M40). The steel construction M40 helmet retains most of its rough textured, blue-gray paint and about 85% of the decal. All three liner retaining rivets are intact. The interior of the helmet is a M31 leather liner made of multiple pieces of leather with all nine fingers intact, the leather is still supple and has probably been oiled once, the liner is approximately a size '58'. The liner is complete with its original liner cord. The shell is marked with maker and size 'ET66'. 'ET' is indicating production by the 'Eisen-und Hüttenwerke, AG' from Thale/Harz. The reverse interior neck guard apron has a stamped lot-number '1343'. The helmet is complete with its original leather chinstrap, the chinstrap is nicely maker marked by the company of 'G.Schiele' from Loburg and dated 1942. The helmet was taken home as a war souvernir by a US GI, he painted his name inside the shell and also painted a swastika and his name in the neck guard which has been partially removed later on, see photos. Nice original Luftwaffe helmet in good used condition!
