Description
Named Kriegsmarine U-Boat Member's Donald Duck Cap (Tellermütze) & Overseas Cap (Schiffchen). The donald duck cap is complete with a 'Kriegsmarine' Cap Tally and an original Cap Eagle and Cocarde combination. On the inside the donald duck cap is showing a small name-tag named to 'Edelmann'. The dark navy blue woolen overseas cap is having a BeVo woven cap-eagle and cocarde original hand-sewn in place, a small name-tag named to 'Edelmann' is sewn inside the overseas cap. Both caps belonged to 'Erich Edelmann' who was an Obermaat at the U849. The U-849 was commanded by top U-boat ace Kapitänleutnant Heinz-Otto Schultze. She joined 4th Flotilla for training on 11 March 1943, where she remained until 30 September 1943, whence she then joined 12th Flotilla for active service until her sinking on 25 November 1943. U-849 was sunk by depth charges dropped by a US Navy Consolidated B-24 Liberator bomber from Patrol Squadron-107 in the South Atlantic west of the River Congo on 25 November 1943. All 63 crew members were lost. Both piece of headgear are in good used condition. Rare piece of history!
