First Pattern Waffen-SS Camouflage Helmet Cover

Description

Rare original First Pattern Waffen-SS Camouflage Helmet Cover (Stahlhelmbezüge) constructed from plane tree overprint camouflage material. By regulations of around mid-1942 foliage loops were added to the camouflage covers. This is a 1st pattern cover without foliage loops. This cover is showing the reversible spring/autumn camouflage colours in the oakleaf (Eichenlaubmuster) camouflage pattern overprinted with the plane tree (Platanenmuster) pattern. The cover was secured to the helmet by three springs, springs are still functional. The bottom edges of the springs are rivetted to the rocker clips while the top edges of the springs are stitched directly to the cover, one spring looks to have came loose internally. The aluminum rocker clips are showing some oxidation spots but are in overall good condition. The cover will fit on a size '62' helmet as photographed. The cover is showing clear traces of usage, some staining and some damage on front caused by the helmet rim, see photos. Unlike the many 'mint' covers offered for sale this is a rare original cover in truly combat worn condition!
