WH (Heer) M40 Camouflage Helmet
WH (Heer) M40 Camouflaged Combat Helmet (Stahlhelm M40). The steel construction M40 helmet retains most of its rough textured, (field-applied) two tone tan/green camouflage over-paint. The paint shows normal wear and scratches. The helmet shows some battle-damage and was most likely hit by some shrapnell on the wearer's right side, see photos. All three liner retaining rivets are intact. The interior of the helmet is a M31 leather liner with all eight fingers intact and the liner is a size '56'. The liner is complet with its original drawstring. Due to the impact of the battle damage the liner is not attached totally correct anylonger, see photos. The leather on the liner is showing traces of the camouflage overpaint as well. The shell is marked with maker and size 'SE64' which indicates production by the company 'Sächsische Emaillier und Stanzwerke A.G.' from Lauter. The reverse interior neck guard apron has a stamped serial number which due to the thick camouflage paint is hard to read, an overpainted name and number are visible as well. The helmet is complete with its original chinstrap, the chinstrap is nicely maker marked and dated 1940. Overall a very nice combat worn camouflage helmet in stunning condition!
