WH (Heer) M40 Camouflaged Combat Helmet
WH (Heer) M40 Camouflaged Combat Helmet (Stahlhelm M40). The steel construction M40 helmet retains most of its rough textured, (field-applied) camouflage over-paint in random splotches of green and orange/brown. The paint shows clear traces of usage and some surface rust. All three liner retaining rivets are intact. The interior of the helmet is a M31 leather liner with all eight fingers intact, the liner is not visible size marked but is approximately a size '58', the liner ring is 1940 dated. Due to the rough textured paint the maker and lot number inside the shell are hard to read, the helmet shell is a size '66'. The helmet is complete with its original leather chinstrap. The chinstrap is an early example with aluminum buckle, the chinstrap is nicely maker marked by the company 'G.Schiele' from Loburg and dated 1936. The helmet is in untouched and uncleaned condition as found, this is a typical camouflage as often found in the Netherlands. Nice original camouflaged helmet!
