WH (Heer) M40 Combat Helmet
Wehrmacht (Heer) M40 No Decal Combat Helmet (Stahlhelm M40). The stamped sheet steel construction M40 helmet retains most of its rough textured, field-grey paint. The paint shows normal wear and scratches caused by usage, see photos. All three liner retaining rivets are intact. The interior of the helmet is a M31 leather liner with all eight fingers intact. The liner is complete with its original liner cord, the cord has been ripped out a few of the fingers, see photos, the leather is very supple. The metal liner ring looks to be dated 1943 but it is hard to see. The shell is marked with maker and size 'Q66'. 'Q' is indicating production by the 'F.W. Quist, G.m.b.H.' in Esslingen. The reverse interior neck guard apron has a stamped lot-number 'S342c'. The Quist company kept producing the M40 helmet shell right up till late in 1944 whilst the other companies all adopted the M42 model. This helmet was made for all the branches just like the M42 helmet without decal. The liner shows a written name indicating that this helmet was issued to an Army Officer 'Oberleutnant Lippert'. The helmet is in original untouched and uncleaned condition as found. Nice and honest original mid to late war M40 combat helmet in good condition!
