Wehrmacht (Heer) M40 Single Decal Combat Helmet (Stahlhelm M40). The stamped sheet steel construction M40 helmet retains most of its rough textured, field-grey paint. The paint shows normal wear and scratches caused by usage, see photos. A standard Heeres decal is applied to the left side of the helmet, the decal is retained for about 95%. All three liner retaining rivets are intact. The interior of the helmet is an early M31 leather liner with reinforced aluminum liner-ring, all eight fingers are present, the liner is a size '54'. The liner is complete with its original liner cord. The shell is marked with maker and size 'Q62' which indicates production by the company of 'F.W. Quist, G.m.b.H.' from Esslingen. The reverse interior neck guard apron has a stamped serial number '823'. The helmet is complete with an original early chinstrap with aluminum buckle, the chinstrap is dated 1941. The liner retaining rivets are showing early apple-green paint. This might indicate an early production M40 helmet, or the liner has been replaced at some point, there are traces of reissue paint on the leather visible, please take a look at the photos to make up your opinion, the helmet has been priced accordingly because of this uncertainty. Nice original M40 combat helmet in good used condition for a fair price!
