Description

Hand made souvernir clay astray of a Dutch Prisoner of War who was held in captivity in POW Camp 'Neubrandenburg', also known as 'Oflag 67'. Between 1942 and early 1944 the camp in Stanislau housed about 2000 Dutch officers who were taken as prisoner of war. When the Russians came closer to 'Stalag 371' (Stanislau) it was decided to transfer the prisoners to POW Camp 'Neubrandenburg'. Stanislau was completely evacuated between 10 and 12 January 1944. The 2000 prisoners were divided over three cattle wagons and transferred to Neubrandenburg. The clay ashtray is sized approximately 12 x 7 x 2,5 cms. Rare and interesting original item!
