'Fallschirmjäger' Document & Medal Group

Description

Luftwaffe 'Fallschirmjäger' Document & Medal Grouping from 'Otto Jürkewitz' including his Iron Cross second class (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse), Award Document and Soldbuch. On 1 September 1939 Hitler reinstituted the Iron Cross (First time in 1813). The second class medal was for award to personnel who performed a single act of bravery in combat. The cross is not visible maker marked. The cross has a three piece construction and shows some minor wear and has great detail overall, the cross is still having the nice so-called 'Hochpolierte Kanten' (silvered highlights). The (A5 sized) award-document was awarded to 'Gefreiten Otto Jürkewitz' on 3 March 1945, at the time he was a member within the '15./Fsch.Jg.Rgt.21' (Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 21). This regiment was created on 9 October 1944 at the front near Venlo (Holland) from the remains of the Fallschirmjäger-Regiment "Laytved-Hardegg" to which Otto had previous belonged. The regiment was part of the 7. Fallschirmjäger-Division (7th Parachute Division). The division was first formed as Fallschirmjäger-Division Erdmann in August 1944, from a collection of training units and remnants of other formations, named for its commander 'Wolfgang Erdmann'. It fought at Arnhem during Operation Market-Garden in September, and in October was redesignated as the '7. Fallschirmjäger-Division'. It contained the 19th, 20th and 21st Fallschirmjäger Regiments, and the 7th Fallschirmjäger Artillery Regiment. The division fought on the Western Front for the remainder of the war, seeing action in the battle around the 'Niederrhein' and the 'Reichswald', finally the division surrendered in Oldenburg at the end of the war. The Iron Cross 2nd Class document is personnaly signed by Generalleutnant 'Wolfgang Erdmann'. The document is in good used condition. The Soldbuch of course also belonged to 'Otto Jürkewitz', you can find all importent information regarding the units he served in, of course his Iron Cross award date is filled in in the Soldbuch as well. The Soldbuch is in good used condition and complete with his portrait-photo. Together with the set also comes a post-war Red Cross Personal Identity Card of Otto, also having a portrait-photo attached. Desirable and interesting original Fallschirmjäger grouping!
