LW 'Geschwader General Wever' Cufftitle

Description

Luftwaffe 'Geschwader General Wever' EM/NCO's Cufftitle (Ärmelband). The cufftitle was introduced on 4 June 1936 by 'Luftwaffen-Verordnungsblatt Nr 23, Order Nr 686'. This was a remembrance cufftitle of 'General Walter Wever', an extremely able officer who served as the first Chief of the General Staff of the Luftwaffe until he was killed in a plane crash in June 1936. This cufftitle was for use by Officer's of the 'Kampfgeschwader Gotha' and later 'Kampfgeschwader 4' (KG4). The KG4 was a Luftwaffe bomber unit during World War II and was named after General Wever. KG4 helped neutralise Dutch air power on 10 May 1940 by striking at airfields and Dutch Anti-Aircraft positions and airlifted supplies to the Fallschirmjäger units in the Netherlands. The II Gruppe also took part in the bombing of Rotterdam. Blue wool construction cufftitle showing the neatly hand-embroidered script 'Geschwader General Wever' in off-white cotton threads. The cufftitle has the typical opened back construction with the top and bottom edges folded over the reverse. The cufftitle is in good used and clearly tunic removed condition. The cufftitle is approximately 45cms long. Nice original cufftitle!
