Kriegsmarine 'Narvik' Campaign Shield

Description

Kriegsmarine 'Narvik' campaign shield in Gold, mounted on a piece of dark navy-blue wool. The 'Narvikschild' was instuted by Adolf Hitler on 19 August 1940 for award to all Wehrmacht personnel who participated in the battle of Narvik (Norway) between 9 April and 9 June 1940. About 8577 examples have been awarded in total to all branches of service. The late war zinc-type shield is complete with its metal back-plate and 4 prongs and still retains its dark navy-blue woolen backing. Most of the gold finish is missing, the shield is showing great detail. The shield is not visible maker marked but can very likely be attributed to the company of 'Wilhelm Deumer' from Lüdenscheid. Nice original Narvik Shield in good condition!
